Shout-Out Saturday: Forgotten Rebellion by A. J. Park
Welcome to the Saturday edition of Fantasy Friday book recommendations! I have another great one to share with you today hot off the press!
A ruthless outlaw determined to conquer her kingdom. A courageous stranger who saves her life. She never suspected they would be the same man…
With the king bound in enchanted slumber, unrest spreads through the Seven Rivers. Outlaws ravage the land, destroying peaceful villages. Left alone to rule, Crown Princess Tahlea leads her army in defense of her people. When her efforts fail to capture the criminals, she makes a perilous journey to seek aid from a reclusive mystic. He grants her power to erase the memory of her enemy, Andevaar.
Betrayed and ambushed, Tahlea fights for her life. Captured by outlaws, she learns the attacks are only the beginning, and her entire kingdom is in immediate danger. Desperate to stop Andevaar, she casts her spell.
Bent on vengeance, Andevaar plans to conquer the Seven Rivers. Only Princess Tahlea stands between him and seizing control. But everything changes when he loses his memories. Can he abandon his past and become a new man? Or will he deny his feelings for the stubborn, courageous princess and destroy her to win the throne?
Why I loved this book: I could just say, it’s another book by A. J. Park, ‘nuf said. But I won’t. Don’t you love the cover? A. J. Park knocks it out of the park again with her third book and third badass heroine. She takes the interesting premise of what if the hero and the villain of the story were the same person and she totally rocks it! We meet the villain first masquerading as a hero and fooling the general populace but not the princess. After he comes under a spell that causes him to lose his memory he is all hero. But will the villain re-emerge after the princess does what she must to save her people? I loved this book and highly recommend it. The religious beliefs are a bit odd, but still for me A. J. has joined that extremely rarified air of other books I have loved that I wouldn’t care what they were about, I wouldn’t even read the back all the time, I just knew they were going to be great no matter what and I was going to read them. If you have read A.J’s other books, you already know that she is going to rock whatever she puts her hands on. If you haven’t, then what are waiting for? I already can’t wait for her next one!
Looks like for the moment at least, this book is only available on the devouring dragon that starts with A, which I refuse to support. But here’s links to A. J.’s unrelated first two books: War’s Ending and The Ring Keeper if you bought them haven’t already and I highly recommend you do!
